In Filipino culture, Herohan (for Pag-asa) or Bayanihan stems from the Tagalog word “bayan,” which means nation, town, or community. It represents the spirit of unity, cooperation, and mutual assistance among community members working towards a shared objective.
At Pag-asa, the Gospel revolution occurs through Bayanihan when the fathers of our beneficiaries volunteer their time on Sundays to help less fortunate families in need of assistance with house repairs. Their selfless dedication demonstrates the true spirit of Bayanihan.
Since October 2023, these fathers have been utilizing their Sundays to assist families in need. For example, when the Tambis family needed help fixing their kitchen and comfort room, four skilled fathers from our community offered their services. As a result, the Tambis family now has a functional kitchen and a well-maintained comfort room, thanks to the unwavering commitment of our community members.
Likewise, when the Laguna family encountered issues with their roof and house walls, three fathers volunteered to help with the necessary repairs. Today, the family’s house has brand new roofs and stronger walls, providing a lasting solution to their problems.
Moreover, when the Balangon family faced eviction and needed help building a new home, five fathers from Pag-asa stepped in and lent their support. In June, we also helped two families, Tablatin and Castro, who were living in unimaginable conditions. Thanks to a generous donation of Giacomino’s friend, we were able to make some necessary repairs to their shelter.
This month, we are continuing our mission with the support of another generous donation from a Gen boy’s mother from Germany, enabling us to repair the households of Atenas and Marquita.
